The Plunket Society

A toll free telephone support service staffed by specially trained Plunket nurses is available to respond to caregivers' concerns on child health and parenting. Callers are referred to specialist services where applicable.

Home Birth Aotearoa is the national organisation representing the many local home birth associations throughout Aotearoa / New Zealand. Home Birth Aotearoa supports and celebrates home birth. Trauma And Birth Stress

TABS is a Charitable Trust that serves as a support group of mothers. We have in common stressful and traumatic pregnancies or births that affected our lives negatively for months or years afterwards.

TABS was formed because of the need to make PTSD known as a form of mental illness that can happen following childbirth, but quite distinct from the Baby Blues, Post Natal Depression (Post Partum Depression) and Post Natal Psychosis.

Women's Refuge

The National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges is a network set up across New Zealand. Women's Refuge is one of the key services for women and children, as it provides:
  • 24 hour access to community based support services
  • 24 hour access to emergency accomodation (and residential based support services)
  • Education work
In addition, many Refuges also provide childcare services, child advocacy, specialist children's programmes, women's education programmes and outreach services for rural areas.

In some areas of the country, other services provide crisis and ongoing advocacy and support to abused women and children.

National Network of Stopping Violence Services Programmes

The programmes are aimed at teaching men non-violent alternatives to abuse. Many programmes also offer a range of additional services, include support services for abused women.

CAPS is a national organisation that provides programes for parents who have been or are at risk of being violent to their children.

National Call Centre, Child, Youth and Family

The call centre operates from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and is staffed by intake social workers. All after hours calls are relayed, via the call centre, to an after hours answering service which directs calls to the local office. The intake social worker will take direct referrals about causes for concern, or is available to discuss possible courses of action if you think child abuse is a possibility or you are uncertain what to do next.
